Religion and Spirituality

Religion is our expression of the divine, of the higher consciousness we refer to as God. Religion is a way of celebrating the creative intelligence that enables life on earth. When religion loses its spirituality it becomes the opposite of what it’s supposed to be. Religion without heart leads to oppression. Religion without spirituality leads to a world in conflict. If we define God as the loving, creative intelligence behind the universe, how is it possible there could be different Gods depending on what part of the planet you reside? Different cultures pray and dance and dress and eat in different ways. But we all share the same planet Earth, and the same God. It’s when we forget this that we lose our spirituality. When one religion pits itself against another, claiming its God is the only God, that religion loses its spirituality. It’s no longer celebrating, it’s controlling. And when we lose our spirituality, we lose our connection to each other and our fellow species, and with the earth itself. We lose our humanity. The result is the world we now live in.
